The simple elegance of the PK25 lounge chair brings a rustic, subdued atmosphere to each room. The chair is incredibly comfortable and is handmade from a unique mix of materials. The complex frame is pretty formed from a whole piece of stainless steel, which is bent so that it stays in place without seams or connections. There is a braided rope wrapped around the frame for a tight but flexible seat and backrest, which has been turned for relaxation. This unique and stylish chair is complementary to any modern interior and is beautiful on its own, or in a group of numerous PK 25 lounge chairs.

The story behind the Kjærholm PK25 Lounge Chair

Poul Kjærholm designed the PK25 in 1951 for his graduation project at the Applied Arts School in Copenhagen. The chair delivered him his diploma and is often called the "element" chair, because each material consists of one element only. Stainless steel was one of Kjærholm's favorite materials to work with. He said, "The constructive potential of steel is not the only thing that interests me. The way the light is broken on the surface is an important part of my artistic work. I consider steel as a material with the same artistic value as wood and leather.

Unlike his Scandinavian contemporaries who worked primarily with wood, Poul Kjærholm’s passion was steel. He liked to combine the cool beauty of the metal with other materials such as wood, leather, cane or marble. “Steel’s constructive potential is not the only thing that interests me; the refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work. I consider steel a material with the same artistic merit as wood and leather,” he commented.

"And we should try to keep our designs as simple as possible."
